Jay Hill to have heart procedure
Hill will miss season opener due to heart procedure
BYU Cougars football coach Kalani Sitake announced Monday that defensive coordinator Jay Hill will miss the season opener against Southern Illinois University after undergoing a heart procedure two days ago.
Sitake said Hill is expected to make a full recovery and will be back on the field soon.
Hill has been with BYU since 2018 and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2020. He has been a key part of the Cougars' success in recent years, helping them to a 21-4 record over the past two seasons.
The Cougars will open the season on Saturday, Aug. 27, at home against SIU. Defensive line coach Steve Kaufusi will serve as the acting defensive coordinator in Hill's absence.
