Brody Malone Injury

American Gymnast Brody Malone's Long Road Back from Serious Leg Injury is Over

Malone Suffered a Devastating Knee Injury in March 2023

After a disappointing finish on the high bar at the Tokyo Olympics and a devastating knee injury last March that could have ended his gymnastics career, American gymnast Brody Malone is atop the leaderboard halfway through the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in San Antonio on Friday night. Malone, 23, suffered a torn meniscus, tibial plateau fracture, and partially torn posterior cruciate ligament when he fell on his dismount at the DTB Cup in Germany. The botched landing ripped up his right knee, and doctors initially feared he might never be able to compete at the same level again.

But Malone, who came back from a leg injury to win his third U.S. Championship in June, showed no signs of rust on Friday night. He hit all six of his routines, including a stuck double-twisting Yurchenko on vault, and finished with a score of 88.550, more than two points ahead of second-place finisher.

Malone's performance was a testament to his hard work and dedication. He spent countless hours in rehab, working to regain the strength and range of motion in his knee. He also had to overcome the mental challenges of competing again after such a serious injury.

But Malone never gave up on his dream of competing for the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics. "I knew I had to keep fighting," Malone said. "I knew I had to keep believing in myself."
