In March 2023, Malone fell during a dismount at the DTB Cup in Germany, tearing his right knee's meniscus, tibial plateau, and posterior cruciate ligament. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Despite the severity of his injury, Malone remained determined to return to gymnastics. He spent months undergoing extensive rehabilitation and training.
